The story
The Margate Job – Limited Print
Three Minis. One seaside promenade. Absolutely no time for an ice cream.
The Italian Job… in Margate swaps the famous film’s Italian getaway for the glorious disorder of a British seaside holiday. A convoy of red, white and blue classic Minis races past colourful beach huts, scattered deckchairs and startled holidaymakers, while a thoroughly unimpressed seagull watches proceedings.
Sunlight catches the chrome, tyres send water splashing across the promenade, and a dropped ice cream becomes another casualty of the escape. It’s a cinematic caper with a distinctly British sense of humour.
Bold acrylic brushwork, layered colour and raised paint details give the scene its energy. Vivid scarlet meets turquoise sea and golden highlights, capturing the nostalgia of classic motoring and carefree summer days.
Full of movement, mischief and coastal charm, this painting by Kate Silverwood invites you to imagine a getaway where the biggest obstacle might just be somebody’s deckchair.
Concept & inspiration
The Italian Job… in Margate takes the daring spirit of the classic film The Italian Job and sends it on a very British seaside holiday.
Swapping Italian streets for a sunlit promenade, three iconic Minis weave past deckchairs, dropped ice creams and holidaymakers who certainly weren’t expecting to become extras in a getaway scene. The ambition is cinematic; the obstacles are mostly collapsible.
The familiar red, white and blue convoy meets the nostalgic pleasures of the British coast: colourful beach huts, striped awnings, sparkling water and a seagull whose expression suggests it has seen considerably worse.
Bold acrylic brushwork and lively splashes of colour echo the speed and exuberance of the chase. It’s a fond celebration of classic cinema, British eccentricity and the glorious possibility that an ordinary day by the sea might turn into an adventure.
Process
Painted in acrylic on canvas, using layers of rich colour and expressive brushwork to create depth, movement and texture. Raised paint details catch the light, bringing a tactile quality to the cinematic composition.
