Authenticity & Provenance

Whether you choose an original painting or a limited-edition print, clear documentation helps you identify your artwork and keep a record of its origin.

Certificates of authenticity

Every original Kate Silverwood painting is supplied with a certificate of authenticity signed by Kate. The certificate records:

  • Artwork title
  • Artist’s name
  • Date of creation
  • Medium and materials
  • Artwork dimensions
  • Details of the artist’s signature
  • A unique artwork reference number

The reference number connects the certificate to the individual painting, providing a useful record for future enquiries, insurance documentation or a transfer of ownership.

Limited-edition prints

Each limited-edition print carries its edition number, identifying its place within the stated print run for that size.

For example, 12/50 identifies print number 12 from an edition limited to 50 prints. Numbering identifies the individual print; it does not necessarily indicate the order in which prints were produced or sold.

Please check the product listing for any additional signing or certification details that apply to your chosen edition.

Keeping your artwork’s history

Provenance is the documented history of an artwork’s origin and ownership. Your certificate, purchase receipt and any accompanying correspondence provide the starting point for that history.

We recommend keeping these documents safely and passing them to the next owner if you sell or gift the artwork. Retaining a digital copy is also helpful.

A certificate records the artwork’s identity and the artist’s confirmation of authenticity. It is not a valuation or a guarantee of future value.

Questions about your documentation

If you have a question about a certificate or edition number, please contact us with the artwork’s title and reference or edition number. Clear photographs of the artwork and its documentation will help us respond to your enquiry.
